Utah COVID Tracker was created out of frustration resulting from reviewing data on the Utah Coronavirus website. All of the data was there, but it was difficult to consume. Understanding whether infections were going up or down on average and comparing infection rates on a per capita basis was a challenge.
The engine feeding Utah COVID Tracker scraped data from coronavirus.utah.gov every hour and stores it in a database. Data for previous days were constantly updated, but Utah COVID Tracker captures and stores every data change. This allowed the daily summary email to provide the most up-to-date information possible.
